Development Pathway Health Check

Pathways, coaching systems and competition structures that hold up under scrutiny

Most development problems in sport are not coaching problems. They are structural — a pathway with a gap in it, a competition calendar that works against the training year, or an analysis setup that produces reports nobody acts on.

This check asks the questions I ask at the start of a sport development engagement — about where your pathway leaks, whether coaching standards are real or aspirational, and whether the data you collect ever changes a decision.

You get your score and a breakdown on screen before you are asked for anything.

What you get

  • Your pathway health score across four dimensions, on screen immediately
  • Which dimension is holding your development system back, and why that one matters most
  • A written assessment from me, if you want one

What it measures

Pathway continuity
You can name where athletes drop out of your pathway, and each transition between stages has a named owner.
Coaching consistency
Your coaching standards are designed and documented, not accumulated — and delivery matches the standard at every site.
Data to action
Your performance analysis changes session plans and pathway decisions, rather than existing as a reporting exercise.
Structural fit
Your competition calendar and training year are designed together, and what actually happens matches what the strategy document says happens.

Question 1 of 8Pathway continuity

Can you name the stage where athletes drop out of your pathway?

Not a guess — can you point to it with data, and say why.
